Solid rivets, sometimes called blacksmith rivets, are the oldest type of fasteners. Solid rivets consist of two simple parts; the shaft and the head. While it used to be required to heat the rivet to install them, modern times have allowed for easier installation processes. These rivets are now simply installed with a hammer or rivet gun. There are also various pneumatic and machine presses that do the job.
